The Alsakan glacier has melted over the past 47 years. It has all been captured by NASA satalites. The glaicers have been melting since the data was starting to be recorded but has increased since 1972. It has gone down by 20 kilometers since 1980. Large portions of these alaskan glaciers break off at one time. The pictures of the glaciers look differnt every year that they recieve a new one due to the melting of the glaciers.

How does this impact life and animals around these glaciers?

Why are the glaciers melting now?

What happens when parts of the glaciers fall into the ocean?

Comments

  1. When the glaciers melt it’s effects polar bears by decreasing the amount of land they have to hunt on. For penguins when the ice melts it eliminates the plankton growing on it.

  2. When parts of the glaciers fall off the melting ice contributes to sea level rise because of displacement.

When the glaciers melt, it causes the sea level to rise because it’s adding more volume to the sea. When this happen, it can eventually cause the land to flood.

  4. When the glacier begins melting it releases carbon dioxide trapped in the ice into the air adding to global warming, which causes other glaciers to melt too. But also ice sheets fall into the ocean and increase the mass already in the ocean, causing the oceans to rise, causing all sorts of different problems.

  5. This could impact the animals around the glaciers since there are animals who eat things on and around the glaciers who will now either adapt to these changes or die off. A huge problem with that becomes the food chain. Along with this, the melting glaciers add access water into the oceans causing them to overflow and effect those organisms as well. -Izzy

  6. This is a problem for our animals and also with our world. If the climate is constantly changing than the ice with continue to melt which can cause harm to us and other animals

  7. The glaciers are melting due to the increase in pollution and greenhouse gases heating up the environment causing global warming. This causes the glaciers to melt and sea levels to rise.

  8. If the glaciers fall, it could kill animals and take away their habitats. The glaciers are melting because of global warming from greenhouse gases being put in the air. When the glaciers fall, it makes our sea levels rise. -Gabby Abowitz

  9. With how big of a factor this could become in the future, we definitely need to find ways to stop this, or restrict certain things to stop this from happening at the rate it has been.

    1. I agree that we need to find a way to prevent this and stop it from spreading in the future because its happening at a large rate

  10. Glaciers are melting now because of an increasing global temperature. As the glaciers melt they release carbon into the atmosphere which raises the temperature more and causes glaciers to melt faster.

  11. This effects life and animals around the glaciers because some animals are losing their homes. Polar bears are an animal specifically, that are on track to go extinct because of the melting glaciers.

  14. The glaciers are melting due to the rise in global warming which means that the earth is heating them up and melting them.

  15. The glaciers melting will contribute to sea level rising and the plant and wild life will be heavily effected

The glaciers are melting now because of the excessive carbon emissions in the atmosphere causing the earth to warm which melts the glaciers.
