The video on sustainability describes the rise of the topic of sustainability and how it has gone from the outside to mainstream in a couple of decades. The video talks about how the topic of sustainability has been driven by an environmental crisis throughout a global scale. The video explores the topic of sustainability through an environmental view that focuses on key structural transformations in the economy that would be required to achieve sustainability in the age of globalization.
3 facts-
1.Sustainable economies are important for quality of life and longevity
2.Societies should look to form synergies that enable the continuous cycling of resources
3.Innovation should be focused on delivering greater functionality with ever less material demand
Recommendation-
I personally would not recommend watching the entire documentary solely based on the fact that it is 42 minutes long and having to sit through the whole thing would be very boring. However, skipping to the important parts about sustainable economies would definitely be helpful in understanding what sustainability is and how we can shape our economies to become more sustainable. Overall, if the video were condensed to 10 to 15 minutes I think that it would be much more beneficial.

Chasing Tomorrow is a documentary about two guys named Jeremy and Max who explored the country in hopes to create a better future for the next generation. It’s a film about awakening and how we need to change the way we live our lives. Throughout the documentary, it talks about the importance of food and how the things we eat affect our bodies. Overall, we must make a change to how we are living because soon the damages will be too late.
1. Learning how to educate people about serious topics is important!
2. By 2050, our population will be so large that we won’t have enough food to give to everyone. Eating insects provide a huge source of protein and might be what our world comes to.
3. Food is what brings people together.
I would recommend this documentary because it's important to see what other countries are doing to solve world issues. It can impact our actions and promote change.

Our Planet and the episode that I watched (forest) is about various animals in various different types of forest throughout the world. It starts talking about Siberian tigers and eagles in a very cold and large forest. To tadpoles in the red wood forest, to many more different animals. It takes about the struggles the animals face such as forest fires, cold, hot or dry environments and in some cases other animals. Overall it is about the different forest around the world and how other animals function in their habitats.
1. There are less than 600 Siberian tigers left.
2. Forest can regrow and thrive in harsh environments
3. Animals are constantly competing each other for resources.
I would recommend this documentary because it is interesting to see what happens in our various forest around the world and it is important to know because our world is covered with them.

ReplyDeleteSustainability is a documentary about sustainability and how the struggle to reach it affects the environment. It ranges from direct explanation of how to work on sustainability, to philosophical musings on the nature of sustainability. It also talks about how globalization is necessary for the halting of the climate crisis.
3 facts-
1. Only so much can be done for sustainability without coordination between nations and organizations.
2. Without sustainability, our way of life is at risk.
3. Sustainability must become the full focus of our economy if we wish to survive.
I would not recommend this documentary. Most of the information it gives is common sense, and there are long moments of silence which would be better served with more in depth information.

ReplyDeleteThe episode is about sea birds and coastal oceanic life. Discusses how they eat and what they eat. Also gives a short cycle of life and dangers of ocean life.
1.over 60% of wildlife is gone
2.5 million birds live on peruvian coasts
3.Animals are never safe from danger.
I would recommend as this gives useful and interesting information that is important to know about our planet.

.the theory of evolution is important for science
.this theory heavily influenced the boom in search of more science

Netflix- Our Planet
ReplyDeletethe episode I watched was about fresh water and how it affects animals around the world. It talks about how the fish adapt, how elephants adapt to no water, and how predators attack near fresh water.
1. Up until 30 years ago many rivers didn't used to evaporate to nothing
2. we are taking more fish than needed creating an imbalance in the ecosystem
3. elephants dig big holes in the river bend when it's dry to find water.
I would not recommend watching this to many people unless I know that they like watching documentaries. It was hard to start watching it but once I did start, it wasn't that bad.

ReplyDeleteThe video discussed the concept of soil health being the most important aspect of farming. Soil is full of microbes that work to add certain nutrients to the soil when paired with the right plants and conditions. It is the care farmers have for their soil and therefore the microbes that live within it that will keep of food supply healthy and prevent another dust bowl.
1) While the physical and chemical properties of soil are well understood by farmers most don't know about the biology of it.
2) A cover crop is a crop that is planted in the off season to protect and replenish the soil.
3) There are about a billion microbes in a tablespoon of soil.
I would recommend this video because the people within it spoke in an easy to understand manner and it presents important information about our food source.

ReplyDeleteThe episode is about the jungle ecosystem and how plants, animals, weather, and humans all impact each others survival.
1. 90% of the Philippines rainforest is gone
2.Poaching has caused animals like the silverback gorilla to become critically endangered and humans also destroy forest and use monoculture planting one type of tree hurting diverse ecosystems.
3. Jungles absorb more carbon than anywhere else in the world.
I recommend this to my classmates because I found it interesting and I found out about some natural phenomenons that I never knew existed. Things are also explained in detail and there were some unique camera angles that had me question how they even got to film somethings.

Netflix-Our Planet from Deserts to Grasslands
ReplyDeleteThe documentary is about the ecosystems in the deserts and grasslands. The viewer learns about these ecosystems by observing animals in them. It seems like the purpose of the documentary is to show the viewer some of the puzzle pieces that allows these ecosystems to function as a whole.
1. A fifth of the land on our planet is covered by deserts.
2.A lot of animals in these ecosystems are facing decreasing population because of human intervention.
3. Many animals are only able to survive in their respective ecosystems because of traits they have adapted over time. For example elephants are able to find food because of their fantastic memory which leads them to places rich with food.
I would recommend this documentary to my classmates because I think it has very interesting details about these ecosystems that wouldn't normally be learned. Also the documentary is very engaging to watch so it would also probably be fun for my classmates to watch.

Netflix - Nature at Night "Jungle Nights¨
ReplyDeleteThis episode goes through life of the rain forest at night. It goes over multiple different animals from elephants to spiders, to frogs. It just talks about what goes on in a usually night in the forest.
1. Many mammals in the rain forest will use touch or smell and not vision because it is just to dark
2. Two thirds of the mammals in the forest are nocturnal.
3. There are hundreds of crazy and weird organisms in the rain forest.
I would say this is a good one to watch if you like animals. It is a little bit longer than I would normally like since it is about an hour long. However, if you want to learn about the ecosystem in the rain forest this is a good thing to watch because it goes over prey/predator examples in the forest. Also, goes over how they fight for similar food sources. I learned about a couple animals that I have never heard before.

ReplyDeleteThis episode goes through different species and their habitats and how to get away from predators. More specifically sea birds and coastal ocean life.
1. 60 % of the oceans wildlife population has decreased in the last 50 years.
2. The animals work together in a herd to protect their babies from being eaten by predators.
3. Even if the species think they are safe from predators its likely they are not.
I would recommend this documentary because I think it gives out good and important information and at the end it starts to mention global warming in artic areas and how the ice is melting. -lannah parker
The Plastic Problem-YouTube
ReplyDeleteThis documentary is about how plastic ends up in our oceans, how it affects not only the animals, but humans as well. It also talks about how companies are trying to improve their restaurant supplies to be more compostable.
1. Plastic pollution is now one of the largest environmental threats.
2. 40% of all plastic is single-use plastic.
3. About 25% of Americans would fully support the single-use plastic ban.
I would recommend this documentary because I think it clearly shows that we aren't doing enough to actually bring full awareness to this environmental threat.
Our Planet Grasslands and Deserts
ReplyDeleteThe documentary is about the habitats in the grasslands and deserts. By watching the animals in them, the audience learns about these habitats. The aim of the documentary seems to be to show the viewer some of the puzzle pieces that allow these ecosystems to operate as a whole.
1. The majority of the animals in deserts are endangered.
2. It is very hard to adapt to a desert or grasslands because of the harsh nature of the biomes.
3. Deserts generally receive less than 40cm of rain a year.
I would recommend this documentary because it has very good cinematics with the animals and it is interesting the entire time.

The Plastic Problem:
ReplyDeleteThis documentary was about the problem with plastic waste in the world. There is a ton of plastic that cannot be reused or disposed of and it is pilling up around the world. There is also plastic polluting the ocean and beaches. Many companies and businesses are taking steps to try to reduce their plastic production. Scientists are trying to find new ways to get rid of recycled plastic as well.
1) More than 350 million tons of plastic is produced every year.
2) America produces about 1/3 of the world's waste.
3) There is a pile of trash in the ocean near South America that is almost 2 times the size of Texas called the South Pacific Garbage Patch.
I would recommend this documentary. It's crazy seeing the huge piles of plastic that have built up over the years.
