Summary: The planet classified as TOI 700 d was just recently discovered using NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS for short). The solar system this planet is a part of has only 3 planets and this one is truly special. Scientists have found that the planet has a very similar size to earth. Plus, the planet orbits its star in such a way that it would allow water to stay liquid on the surface of the planet. All of this data now begs the question: could there be life on this planet?

Questions:

1. Do you believe this planet could have life on it?

2. What makes Earth habitable?

3. Could there be a way to get to this planet even though it is so far away?

Comments

  1. I think that there is or has been or gonna be life on that planet but only microscopic life.

  2. I believe that this planet could possibly have microorganisms living on it because if there’s water and it has the characteristics to sustain life there is definitely a possibility. It could also just be starting it’s development.

  3. I think that life definitely exists somewhere out there, but space and time is so funky that I don’t think there’s any way any of us will live to see it

    1. I definitely think that time is indeed very funky and the probability that ANY of us will see true evidence of aliens is indeed very low given the scale of the universe and time itself.

  4. Earth is habitable due to the oxygen and atmosphere surrounding it, also it’s the perfect distance from the sun. I do believe it is possible for life to be on this planet but I think it’s only going to be microscopic.

If there is a sign of water, I think it could possibly be a sign of life. Maybe not animal or human life but some kind of microscopic bacterial life.

  6. I don't know if this planet necessarily has life on it but I think that there is a planet that has had or will have life. What makes earth habitable is our distance from the sun combined with the green house effect, the oxygen in our atmosphere, and we have water.

  7. I think that there has to be other life forms in the world and on other planets. I don’t think humans are on another planet but there is probably microscopic life if it believed to have a form of liquid on it then something could probably survive. I don’t think we will find out if there is life on this new planet because it is so far away and maybe can’t survive that long.

  8. I feel like that there is life out in other plants if not now than years later there will be. There is no way that we're the only life in the universe.

  9. I believe this planet could potentially have life on it because if there is water, then there is probably some sort of life as well (even if it's microscopic).

  10. some of the reasons that earth is suitable for life not like many others is because our gravity is able to keep an atmosphere and earth has water.

  11. Maybe sometime in the future when our space technology is advanced enough we could explore this planet and if possible make a settlement there.

  12. it could totally be possible to live on another planet that resembles earth, water is also an essential.

  13. I think any form of life on any other planet would be a major breakthrough. I think our technology would have to be a few more years advanced to be able to actually get there and find out what the word is.

There may be life on this planet but we really would never know. Maybe we will know in 1,000 years.

  15. one thing that it is really necessery to make one planet habitable is the water -giorgiab

  16. Earth is so habitable because of the source of water, and I think that there could be life on this planet, but I doubt its anything like humans.

  17. I do think that there is defiantly life on other planets but in no way there is any life like ours, I think there are microorganisms that could one day mutate into life but that is gonna take millions and millions of years.

  18. I think there is a possibility for this planet to have some sort of life on it, even if it is microscopic. Earth is habitable because there is gravity, water, land, and the correct temperature to be alive on. -Gabby Abowitz

  19. Yes, it seems reasonable to think that there could be life on this planet because it has similarities to earth. the main reason i think this is because it orbits sum similar to ours and is a far enough distance from it that water would stay liquid. if it were too far, it would be a frozen environment not suitable for life. also if it was to close of course it would be to hot to sustain life.
