Are we living in a simulation by Adam Spizman

Are we living in a simulation by Adam Spizman

Ever since the late 1990’s there has been talks about this idea of a Matrix or Y2K, both highly unlikely but still stemmed the beginning of the simulation hypothesis. This hypothesis is based solely on odds with no factual evidence. This hypothesis does not state that we are living in a simulation, but that the odds that future generations have the technology to do so would at massive rates. With the constant increase of technology and AI its not far fetched that these simulations could recreate consciousness in a computer simulation. As well if the whole point of the simulation would be too create a reality that could convince every conscious sim that they are in the real world. This hypothesis raises multiple questions. One question I found was that if we are living in a simulation, how would that make you feel. Another question I mused upon was that how could you prove we where in a simulation and convince people if they are all apart of the simulation . Lastly if we are not in a Simulation why does everyone see and hear things differently (Yanny vs Laurel) (gold vs blue dress).

  1. If we were living in a simulation I feel like life would become a video game. Like we would already have a life planned out for us we just have to find the right way to get there.

  2. I believe that we could possibly be living in a simulation but at the same time it is a very far out and crazy idea.

  3. It wouldn’t really bother me if we were living in a simulation because nothing would really change in the scheme of things.

  4. I think this simulation theory can kind of be connected to the mandela effect. If we are living in a simulation then the memories of things we have that turn out to be false could be memories that were true but were changed by who ever is running the simulation.

  5. I feel like we don't live in a simulation but conspiracies can happen to make us think or question if anything is real like 9/11, people said that they saw the plane "glitch" into the towers. Mandela effect, Simpson are trying to give us hints on the future, and UFO sightings.

  6. I think the thought of living in a simulation is really interesting. There are a lot of aspects of life that don't make a lot of sense. If we were living in a simulation I would be fine with that because the thought of true death scares me. -Gracey Bell

  7. I think living in a simulation would be weird. I don't really know whether I would care or not, because what is there to do if we are? Even if the discovery of this comes with a way to end the simulation arises, would we do it? Everything we've ever known would be gone within an instant and we don't even know if we are truly alive outside of the simulation. I liked this topic a lot because it's fun to think of crazy ideas on what is being used for what, or ways that could prove this, but it is equally as terrifying.

    1. I agree with this comment and I can see your point. Personally I would believe that if i was the sole concious mind of the simulation, there would be a reason or meaning to me being there. I would almost have a sense of that I have a purpose to find instead of that we are all just mindlesly walking around on a plent weith no meaning at all.

  8. If we were living in a simulation, I think I would be questioning everything. It is a very interesting topic to think about and I wouldn't know what to do.

  9. I really think this has potential to be true and there is really no way to prove otherwise unless we somehow break out of it. I think the biggest question would be who is controlling it -aslam

  10. I think its an interesting idea to think about because if we were in a simulation there would be no way to really know, and if we were and someone figured it out whoever is controlling us could just erase it from our memory or stop the simulation and take that person out of it. -Elena Appel

  11. I think this topic really makes you think and if we are living in a simulation, I would feel like my privacy has been obstructed by the government or whoever is running the simulation. I don't think we can prove we're in a simulation until we actually have substantial evidence.
    -Gabby Abowitz

  12. I don't think that if I learned i was living in a simulation it would change my life. I would still have no way out so, it wouldn't really affect my day to day life. -Cal Reynolds

  14. I think it is a possibility to create a simulation in the coming generations with the technology we have but I do not think that we are living in a simulation right now because all the evidence we are starting to have about our planet and outer space.

I think it could be a possibility that we live in a simulation. It would definitely explain why people do things that definitely shouldn’t happen. Such as crimes.

  16. I think that this topic really puts you at mind of if we are or if we are not in a simulation, no body knows what is on the other side of dying, a lot of people make up conspiracy theories.

    1. I personally find your logic quite contradictory of itself. You claim that there is no real proof that we are living in a simulation, yet you neglect the indisputable fact that there is also no proof that we are NOT living in a simulation. If you do not understand what I am trying to say, allow me to clarify: Imagine for a second that last Thursday the universe was created. Your memories of the past were fabricated the instant you, and the rest of the universe were created. Now, of course this is just a theory and there is not any proof that this is true. However, in contrast, there is also no proof that this is false, as there is no real way to prove it. This is the foundation of the philosophy: Last Thursdayism which is actually quite an intriguing way to view the world as a whole. In conclusion, the foundation for your argument is false, as you cannot prove that we are NOT living in a simulation, just as I can't prove that we ARE. Until we can find real proof on this matter, it would be a folly to believe either as there is no proof in either direction.

  18. Personally, if I was living in a simulation, I would not care, because caring would show the "real" world that I had found out and would likely result in my immediate termination. But then again, if I had cared, it would actually be more likely for the "real" world to do nothing as that could risk revealing to everyone that we are indeed living in a simulation.

  19. I don't think were living in a simulation, I think the things that go on are very real and impactful. But, its a fun thing to think about if someone else was controlling our thoughts, actions, and feelings. - Izzy
