Overbites vs Normal teeth?

By Ian Noedel

When humans first started their lineage they had large overbites which was caused by the relaxed state of the upper jaw as it did not have to chew tough foods like meat, However as we evolved as a species our diets became more complex evolving from simple berries, vegetables and wild animals consumed by the neolithic hunters and gatherers to processed wheat which was consumed by many nations from Egypt to Greece. Surprisingly our vocals also changed, certain vowels like “F” and “V” are proven easier to pronounce by people without an overbite. However studies show Overbites were far more common during the industrial revolution than the neolithic age, This change was likely influenced by the significant increase of processed foods like bread, Meat and vegetables. An Anthropologist named Robert Corruccini believes The introduction of processed and canned food led to the significant change in bone structure.

In what other ways has the human body involved?

Could Diet affect our bone structure?

Do you consume a lot of processed food?

I didn't know that overbites had evolved becuase of our diets. I wonder if we had stuck to those foods from back then if we would still have them. Or if we might gain them back if we limited our food choices.

  3. This is really crazy. I never would've thought that our diets and jaw shape/ form would have such an impact on each other.

  4. This proves that the human body is extremely complex and always looking for more efficiency, there is a trend being observed now that humans are growing taller than before. This, is the never ending story of evolution.-shamus landry

  7. The fact that the human body can adapt to it's environment is so fascinating, but I wonder if our new diet is damaging human evolution, or whether or not evolution was supposed to happen at all. Processed foods obviously are not natural and go against the environment, so I wonder if we are harming mankind by continuously eating these foods. -Tori Favazza

  8. Its Amazing how our bodies evolve due to obstacles, Like due to what they ate in the past, Like tough uncooked meat they had bigger jaws, and now we have evolved to a smaller jaw for softer things.

  10. I saw on Instagram the photos of a human and a gorilla and I think they are another form of people just not fully developed and the same as Neanderthals but modern day. Just like how there are different species of animals I think there is different species of people.-Tamara Harmon

  11. It is interesting that the kinds of foods people ate can change the shape of teeth. Is it possible that our teeth are still changing because of the different kinds of food we eat now ? What will a skull from today look like compared to one in the future? - Juan D

  13. It is a bad thing that the food that peopler eat change the shape of theyre teeth because whenever someone wojukd look at you whenevr you have bad teeth is bad. And before you eat something that you have never seen before make sure that it is safe - Jack O'Leary
