Tardigrades on the Moon By: Alyssa Morales

Tardigrades have been sent to the moon. Tardigrades are microscopic animals that are tubby and have eight legs. They are also known as moss piglets because they were originally found in moss samples. In a recent expedition to the moon, foreign scientists sent Tardigrades. They were sent with the hope that they would survive. Tardigrades are known as Earth's recilient and indestructible animal. They have the ability to survive extreme temperatures such as -328 degrees Fahrenheit (-200 degrees Celsius) to more than 300 F (149 C). They also have the ability to dehydrate themselves, curl into a ball for decades and then be awoken. The scientists because of these reasons sent them to the moon, and it was a success. Although they are dehydrated on the moon and can't be awoken by themselves, they are the first animal to make it to the moon and live.

This one is for the picture.

Do you think this supports the idea that life didn't start on earth?

Do you think it was morally ok to send them to the moon? With past experiences animals havent successfully made it.Do you think scientists will continue to push the extremes as to which tardigrades can survive?

  5. I have indeed heard of these microorganisms before and I love them, It's also amazing to consider their abilities. like their extreme climate resistance and ability to hibernate forever. s. Landry

  8. I think that it is morally ok to send the tardigrades to the moon, because they are so microscopic. Although I think that we need to be careful about sending organisms to places without fully knowing their capabilities, because they could cause more problems (like invasive species for example). -Fagan O'Connor

  15. Tardiness on the moon oh my god there everywhere now but i think that cool how they like go in like some type of stasis or what ever type of long time of sleep but it does suck that they dead.
