Solar Sail by Gabby Piper
Space Craft that can travel 3.6m light years in a day.
The “LightSail” Is what they call this successful space craft. It Launched on the 25th Of June.
The Light Sail is propelled by sunlight bouncing off its mirrored sails.
Quote: “Our criteria was to demonstrate controlled solar sailing in a cubesat by changing the spacecraft’s orbit using only the light pressure of the sun, something that’s never been done before.”

The light sail runs on sun light and can travel 3.6 m light year
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting how this complex space craft can get energy purely from the sun. If the space craft can get energy from the sun, so can all of the buildings. I think it should become mandatory that every building runs off of solar power. -Tori Favazza
ReplyDeleteso is this a new acomplishment we made -khloie
ReplyDeleteI would love to travel inside one of these so i could see if it would feel any diffrent from other shuttles before it.( Ian Noedel)
ReplyDeleteIt's truly amazing how far we have come as to make such a machine. A spacecraft that travels very fast and runs completely off of renewable energy. S. LAndry
ReplyDeleteHow can our bodys hold up to the speed this can go-Daniel Biermann
ReplyDeleteThese light sails can move ridiculously fast and it will be interesting to see how far it can go. -lizzy raupp
ReplyDeleteI would like to go and observe how it looks and see if it feels different in space. -Anadia Phillips
ReplyDeleteI think this solar sail doesn't help us advance in anything major. If anything it creates more questions and keeps scientists occupied when they should research something else.
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting to create new things and see the limits we can push, but we could be spending this money on research to help solve issues that are currently facing our earth right now. -Lilly Pearson
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that the Space Craft can travel 3.6 million light years in a day? Veronica D.
ReplyDeleteI think that the light sail is very interesting, and could be revolutionary for space exploration. It is amazing to think that the light sail could help us travel to places in space at a much quicker speed. Even though I do think that we should focus a little more on exploring the rest of earth, before we explore space. -Fagan O'Connor
ReplyDeleteAs billions of light particles hit the sheet, they push the sail strongly enough to move a spacecraft.-romem
ReplyDeleteIt’s crazy to think about how far we have come in space exploration and it’s so cool that we are developing these new things.
ReplyDeleteI think this solar sail will have amazing possiblitys for us, We may have more knowledge about space -Gabby
ReplyDeleteI think it is very cpool that we are all discovering all of these new things and and it is also crazy how much we have explored in the space and how far we havew come and it is going to be interesting to see that it id like in the future (Jack O'Leary)
ReplyDeletei think solar sail is still too risky and it will need some kind of backup power system. estuardo
ReplyDeleteI think that solar sail is cool and all but I see were many many technical issues that can happen one of the big ones being that the sail can be damage by like any thing not only that but there going to a very very high cost for the sail maybe most than the ship like making it go to the B area.
