The Extinction Rate of Animals Rises 10 Times the Normal Value by Eva Deniszczuk

The Earth is currently experiencing it’s 6th form of mass extinction. According to the World Wildlife Fund, species are becoming extinct at 1,000 to 10,000 times the rate of the normal extinction rate, due to the Earth’s progression in industry and climate change.

The root cause of this issue is almost entirely human, not anything natural. Currently, there are over 16,000 species of animals listed as endangered, with scientists predicting a total extinction of 150-200 per year. The majority of these endangered species are delicate animals such as fish, birds, and insects.

Some ways that big companies are combating rampant animal extinction, is by altering their methods of obtaining fish and produce, so that mindful buyers can halt their monetary support of inhumane practices.

In losing these species of animals, we lose potential medicines, as the majority of our medicines are derived from plants and animals.

What is the importance of protecting endangered species, and providing protected lands for these species?
Realistically, how could the situation be improved, or even resolved?
Why should we try to improve the status/rate of animal extinction?
